I have been wanting to make one of these for a while, and now I have the time to. This is the Official PP06 Netbattle Team Building Thread. Basically, I am going to tell you a lot of the team secrets and strategies that win A LOT OF BATTLES on Pokemon Netbattle. Some of these might seem odd, but they work. Now then, lets get started!! ;D
------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
Q) What does a Pokemon Team consist of?
A) Well, it really depends on what kind of team you plan to use when battling. Some people prefer pure offensive attacking, while others like to lay low and use Defense often. Most Teams consist of one or more of the following battle groups:
-----------------------
-----------------------
Sweepers
These Pokemon's attack stat(s) are maxed out. They also use a large variety of highly powered, yet accurate, attacks. Below is list of Pokemon TYPES and ATTACKS usually used:
grass: Solarbeam
Water-Surf
Fire-Flamethrower
Rock-Rockslide
Steel-Steel Wing
Fighting: Brick Break
Ghost: Shadow Ball
Normal: Body Slam/Return
Poison: Sludge Bomb
Psychic: Psychic
Ground: Earthquake
Bug: Silver Wind/Megahorn
Ice: Ice Beam
Electric: Thunderbolt
Flying: Aerial Ace/Fly
Dark: Crunch
Dragon: Dragon Claw
Now, those are the main attacks you will see with sweepers. One good strategy with sweepers is using Pokemon, such as Dragons, which can learn a variety of types. For example, lets say you have a Rayquaza. Its especially good as a sweeper, beings its attack and sp. attack stats are really high. Ok, lets say you want it to be a Physical Sweeper. This means NO SPECIAL ATTACKS. On netbattle, you can edit the IVs and EVs of the Pokemon you are creating. Using this rather handy feature, lower your Rayquaza's HP and SP.ATK stats to the lowest possible. No, I am not crazy LOL. Now, max out your attack. After doing this, change the nature of your Rayquaza so that Attack gets boosted and SP.ATK is lowered. Now look at the result. If done correctly, rayquaza's attack should be over 400!! Also, using choice band is a great move. Although it only allows you to attack with the same move, you can choose that move when it is sent out, and you will get a x1.5 boost on that attack!! This strategy is uncommon, but it works very easily. I, myself, use this strategy often on Netbattle.
I think you understand sweepers now. Below is a list of common sweepers to help you:
Mewtwo(S)
Mew(E)
Dragonite(P)
Tyranitar(P)
Ho-Oh(S)
Groudon(P)
Kyogre(S)
Rayquaza(E)
Deoxys(S)
P=physical
S=special
E=either
Oh yeah, remember to put at least one same type move on your Pokemon, so that it will receive the STAB, or Same Type Attack Bonus. This multiplies the power of the attack of 1.5. Combining this with a Sweeper can greatly increase your power.
------------------------------
------------------------------
Tanks/Annoyers
These Pokemon are used to counter sweepers. Characteristics include high defense, special defense and/or high HP. Two of the most common are BLISSEY (SPECIAL DEFENSE) and SKARMORY (DEFENSE). These two can be incredibly powerful, and when used together, are nearly unstoppable. Of course, they are easy to counter, simply by using the opposite stat that they are high in. For example, lets say Blissey's sp.Defense is 500 and its HP is 650 (DEF is 60). I have a Blaziken out with an ATK of over 300 and SP.ATK of about 250. If I use a special attack, such as blaze kick, it will do little damage, if that. Now, if I launch an attack like Sky Uppercut, it will do MASSIVE damage on Blissey, possibly a OHKO.
Also, Shuckle is an awesome Tank. While its HP is below average, its DEFENSE and SP.DEFENSE (at lv.100) can reach over 600!! Putting a great moveset on it, such as the one below, can assure victory in MOST cases.
Shuckle
Item:Leftovers
Toxic, Double Team, Sandstorm, Protect
Using Toxic is the key with Shuckle. It will deliver a highly accurate poison, and when combined with sandstorm, can REALLY REALLY annoy your enemy. Use Protect and Double Team, taking turns with each one. That way, your opponent probably cant land attacks and will lose within a few turns.
Umbreon is another tank. Its high defenses and HP make it the perfect candidate. Below is a good moveset:
Umbreon
Item:Leftovers
Toxic, Mean Look, Double Team, Confuse Ray
This is one of the better tanks. Mean Look prevents the foe from escaping, and toxic will force it to die slowly and painfully. Confuse Ray is also handy because when it hits, combined with toxic, it literally annoys your foes. Last, double team is there so you can increase evasiveness. After about 4-5 turns of using this attack, Umbreon probably wont get it at all.
A few common tanks include:
Shuckle
Umbreon
Sableye
Blissey
Skarmory
Meganium
Registeel
That sums it up for tanks.
----------------------------
----------------------------
Those are the main battle types of Pokemon. There are some subtypes, such as hazers and spikers, but we won't get into that now.
----------------------------
----------------------------
Now, lets talk about some combos. There are lots of combos, but I want to talk to you about the best and most important ones...
----------------
----------------
Weather
This factor can really help or hurt you in a battle. The main attacks of this factor include: SUNNY DAY, RAIN DANCE, SANDSTORM, and HAIL. Lets Begin with sunny day.
Sunny Day boosts fire type attacks by x1.5. It can also decrease water attacks by 50%. In addition, it prevents Pokemon being frozen. It even allows solarbeam to hit instantly (without this move it take 2 turns to use). This attack is especially good when sweeeping.
Rain Dance boosts water type attacks by x1.5. It also halfs the power of fire attacks. When used with thunder, the accuracy is reached to 100%. This attack also prevents burns from normal attacks like flamethrower.
Sandstorm is 1 of 2 special weather attacks. Although it doesnt boost attacks, it causes slight damage to all types that aren't ROCK, GROUND, and STEEL. Combining this with Shuckle is an astouding combination, especially if it launches TOXIC.
Hail is the second of 2 special weather attacks. It causes slight damage to all attacks other that ICE. This move doesnt have as many combinations as Sandstorm, but is still a good move overall.
This sums of weather effects.
------------------
------------------
Berries
These handy items can play a key factor in battling. There are several types of berries, but allow me to explain just the mainly used ones....
CHERI- Heals paralysis
CHESTO-Heals Sleep
PECHA-heals poison
RAWST-heals burn
ASPEAR-heals freeze
LUM-heals any condition
PERSIM-Heals Confusion
These are the status healing ones. Tons of strategies are made by using just these!! One of the most common is the Snorlax factor. Here is the moveset:
Snorlax
Item: Lum/Chesto Berry
Belly Drum, Rest, Earthquake, Body Slam
Use Belly Drum, which maxes out your attack stat. Now, use rest on your next turn, and thanks to your berry, you will instantly wake up!! Now use earthquake or body slam to literally dominate!!
Another example is Rayquaza and Outrage. Usually, outrage causes confusion to Rayquaza after 2-3 turns. But, if you put a persim berry onto Rayquaza, the confusion will instantly stop. Sounds good, doesnt it? ;D
There are also Stat increasing berries, as shown below:
LEICHI-Raises attack when HP is low
GANLON-Raises defense when HP is low
SALAC-Raises Speed when HP is low
PETAYA-Raises Sp.ATK when HP is low
APICOT-raises Sp.DEF when HP is low
LANSAT-Raises critical hit ratio when HP is low
STARF-Raises random stat when HP is low
Here is an example. Lets say, we have a Jolteon with a maxed out SP.ATK stat and SPEED stat. You also have a nature which boosts SP.ATK. Now, attach a PETAYA BERRY in battle. Better yet, here is a moveset of it:
Jolteon
Item: Petaya Berry
Thunderbolt, Hidden Power (water), substitute, thunder wave
Use Substitute 4 times, resulting in Jolteon with a very small fraction of its HP, causing the PETAYA berry to take effect. Now, just use Thunderbolt or Hidden Power to easily defeat your foes!! ;D ;D
